| Routes: Launch from Washington Park, head
south and then out past Burrows Island around Allen, hugging the shore
on the north side. Once at the western end, head north back to Burrows
for lunch at the Light Station State Park. Check the
currents to make sure that you aren't paddling against them.
Currents can be as strong as 2 kts. Areas to avoid are the passage
between Allen Island and Burrows (tide rips) and Burrows Island and
Fidalgo Head. An additional hazard to watch out for is motor boats
heading from the marina to the San Juans, some do not watch for kayakers,
be alert. Distance covered is approximately 8.0 miles |
