Description | Launch from Joemma State Park. There is a $5 launch fee, lots of parking nice restrooms and overnight camping is available. The beach is rocky as are most Puget Sound beaches. Paddle west along the shoreline, you can paddle around Herron Island (10.8 miles) or paddle direct to McMicken, if you want a shorter paddle. McMicken is the site of an old homestead and is now a nature park. No overnight camping is permitted on the island. Great views of Rainier and the Olympics. Nice laid back paddle. Do watch for westerly or easterly winds up the inlet. There is a Washington Water Trails site just north of McMicken on Hartstene Island for overnight stays or you can paddle around to Jarrell Cove State Park. |
